Chestnut-backed Chickadee
This is another bird that normally I would see feeding on uncut grass seeds on the ground. Difficult to photograph. Merely placing a perch (limb) where the birds could jump up onto and then survey the grass area provided a much nicer background and picture. I placed the perch about 3-4 days before attempting to use it for photographs. Within that time the birds became very accustomed to it and used it regularly.

Thank you for the kind comments. I was lucky in that the birds continued to return to this “seed laden” grassy patch but also that once I provided the perch and they used it, I was able to get the background-that is a lattice on the side of a house in background.
The background looks like it is shimmering! Such a lovely effect.
Thank you. By placing the perch so the birds were off the ground/above the grass and by lowering the tripod mounted camera to about 12″ above the ground I was able to use a lattice mounted on the side of porch about 20′ behind as my background.
