Green Heron

Where are the Cattails? (Birds in B&W)

Green Herons are known for skulking along the edge of marshes and sometimes on a partially submerged branch. As we walked the trail at Stu, two Green Herons flew past us and landed in two trees but near each other. It is not common for us to see them this high in the tree.

Converting this mostly dark bird to black and white accented the eye, bill, chin, and the textured feathers on the outer wing. The angle the heron is perched keeps the back half in shadow and not much happens when color is removed.

More detail is shown on the branches surrounding the bird and forms an interesting and pleasing background to this photo.
