Baltimore Oriole

Harder to Identify This Bird (Birds in B&W)

It is easy to identify a photo of a male Baltimore Oriole in a color photo. The absence of his brilliant orange and bright black complicates the identification of this bird if a birder was shown this photo to identify the bird. It is more striking by removing the color components.

The lighter tones in this photo draws attention to the two-colored tail pattern and the individual feather characteristics on the neck, breast, and shadows of the belly. The black and white also makes the scales on the feet and legs stand out.

The angle of the head and body of the bird matches the curvature of the stick it is on.
