“Birds of Prey With Prey” Contest Honorable Mentions.1

Yesterday the winner of our “Birds of Prey With Prey” Contest was announced. Thanks again to all the photographers who submitted their Great Bird Pics for the contest – I very much enjoyed viewing each and every one of them.  We narrowed down the entries to eight shots, and after selecting the winner the remaining seven were awarded Honorable Mentions.  I will be recognizing their excellence today and tomorrow and I think you’ll see why it was so hard to select just one winner.  So, in no particular order here are first four of the Honorable Mention photographs:

Ron Zigler submitted many Great Bird Pics for the contest.  Here’s an interesting one of two Mississippi Kites sharing a bug for lunch.  We really though Ron did a great job in getting both birds in focus with lots to take in.

Osprey90 submitted a series of four photographs showing a Red-tailed Hawk being harassed by Grackles – this one was our favorite.  Click the pic and read his Description of why they were after the hawk – an interesting story.

Ospreys were a favorite subject in this contest.  Bob had one of the best shots of one carrying its catch home.

Birder2011 also submitted a series of photographs of a Red-tailed Hawk grappling with a snake.  Here we see the last in the series as the snake goes down the bird’s throat but is still alive and kicking!  Again notice how nice and sharp the image is.

The final three Honorable Mention photographs will be featured in tomorrow’s email, and they’re just as good as the ones above.
