Indifferent. To be honest you would have to crop it a lot more, so the head dominates the frame, to make it much better than the original. As it is now you have to really look hard to see the shavings in the bill of the bird. I don’t know how much you already cropped, but try making it about a third of the size of this one and see if you get too much degradation of the image.
I understand your reasoning. One other factor I consider is, how is the picture going to be viewed. There is a difference between looking at a picture on a cell phone vs looking at it on a 42″ HD TV. Most of my pictures are viewed on a “dedicated to bird picture watching” 42″ HD TV on my den wall so cropping for details is not as important. Yes there are enough pixels to crop further; I will post.
