Swallow-tailed Kite
Ottawa County’s first Swallow-tailed Kite spent a lot of time coursing over soybean fields, occasionally dipping down to grab a grasshopper. It would often come away with a fist full of leaves, but usually a tasty morsel included. These kites feed on the wing, picking the prey from it’s talons as it flew.
