Monday the winner of our “In and Around Water” Conest was announced. We narrowed down the 176 entries to eleven shots, and after selecting the winner, the remaining ten were awarded Honorable Mentions – I recognized five of them yesterday. So in no particular order here are the remaining five Honorable Mention photographs:
Here’s another shot submitted by our winner Mike Affinito of Black-necked Stilt with a perfect reflection. We loved the background color in this shot.
Birdwithliz shared this wonderful shot of a male Northern Shoveler stretching its wings. We appreciated the detail in the wings, caught at the moment of greatest extension.
Ronald Zigler’s second Honorable Mention shot was of a Killdeer bathing in shallow water. We loved how Ron captured the water splashing all around.
Alwaysbirding submitted lots of entries in the contest (thanks!) and Xwinger and I really liked this one of a Great Blue Heron capturing a fish. The fish is looking up right at the camera – what’s it thinking at this moment in time?
Our last Honorable Mention is of a Cinnamon Teal and was taken by Mike Affinito. Unlike the winner and all of the other Honorable Mention shots the bird in this photo lacks action, but we loved the birds-eye level of the shot, tack-sharp focus and the beautiful colors of the bird.
Thanks again to all the photographers who submitted their GreatBirdPics for the contest – I very much enjoyed viewing each and every one of them. Another contest will be coming at the end of summer (or winter for those of you in the southern hemisphere). I welcome your suggestions for possible contest themes.
And finally, thank you to my brother Xwinger for taking the time to judge all the photos with me – I value your opinions and the time you are able to spend with me.
